Why still need to wear a face mask after getting vaccine?

According to recent survey feedback, more and more people are getting their first dose covid vaccine, even some healthcare workers or doctors get the second dose. However, they still respond that no rush to throw away the face mask. Although covid vaccines are highly effective, many of them still plan to continue wearing their masks outside the hospital as well.


“Masks and social distancing will need to continue into the foreseeable future — until we have some level of herd immunity,” said Dr. Preeti Malani, chief health officer at the University of Michigan. “Masks and distancing are here to stay.”



Health experts explained good reasons below:


  1. No vaccine is 100% effective. Except the test in medical centers, In the real world, vaccines are usually slightly less effective.

  2. Vaccines don’t provide immediate protection. In other words, full protection won’t arrive until five or six weeks after the first shot.

  3. Covid vaccines may not prevent you from spreading the virus.

  4. Masks protect people with compromised immune systems.

  5. Masks protect against any strain of the coronavirus, in spite of genetic mutations.
